The first Apple HomeKit-enabled IP camera to ship and the first device in D-Link’s new Omna family of HomeKit-enabled devices, the Omna 180 Cam HD offers end-to-end encryption and authentication between the camera and an iPhone or iPad. When activity is detected, you will receive a rich notification on your iOS device's lock screen; and through the Apple Home app, you can see a live feed from the camera. You can even access the Omna remotely to see what’s happening at home in real time (assuming you’ve a recent iPad or Apple TV that you can use as a home hub)....

If you want to control the Omna 180 while you're not around, you'll need a fourth-gen Apple TV in your house, or an iPad on the local Wi-Fi network. That's the big appeal of Apple Home: as well as being simple to set up, you only need to have an Apple TV — which, if you're heavily bought into the Apple ecosystem already, you might even have hooked up to your TV in the first place — to check in on everything remotely.

D-Link Cameras Key Specs
First up we’ll check out the D-Link WiFi Indoor 180-Degree HD IP Camera. This camera is extremely small and lightweight, but it certainly does a good job of protecting the interior of your home when you’re not available to do so yourself. It’s 180º wide eye lens in full HD 1080p resolution means that you can actually get the work of 2 cameras done with just this one unit. It shoots video at up to 30fps for a smooth delivery of everything its eye can see, and that eye can see quite a lot! Other useful features include motion detection with an instant e-mail notification system, night vision with 5m infrared LED lights that allow you to see almost as clearly in the dark as in daylight, a 4x digital zoom feature for when you need to get a better look at something fishy, and local video recording of up to 128GB of video footage via a micro SD card slot. The unfortunate part of this feature, however, is that the camera (both cameras, in fact) does not include an SD chip in the package. This seems like a significant failed opportunity as it would have been incredibly easy and rather inexpensive to simply include a micro SD card with each of these cameras. By the way, each of the features that I’ve mentioned to this point also apply to the D-Link outdoor camera. Lets move on and take a look at a few of that camera’s key features now.Testing and Use
Testing the D-Link cameras wasn’t as smooth a process as I had hoped and expected, but it was very rewarding in the end. Downloading the mydlink Lite App was as easy as scanning a QR code, and setting up an account was equally straightforward. The trouble began when I attempted to install the first (indoor) camera. For whatever reason, I just couldn’t establish a connection with the camera’s own WI-FI network. I then tried the second (outdoor) camera, and that one worked perfectly right away. This was a bit confusing, so I jumped on the line with D-Link’s customer support team for Canada and had the indoor camera up and running within about 5 minutes. I’m still not quite sure what the problem was, but the customer support staff was certainly very helpful and it was mostly smooth sailing from that point on.June 15, 2017

Keeping An Eye
At first, the tumbler-shaped omna could be mistaken for a microphone, or even a TV DVR box. Just by judging on its look, it would not stand out too much, making it a perfect companion to have on a table. To connect to your omna, you would need to download the OMNA app from the Appstore. However, you would first require Apple Home to be installed on your device. Once downloaded, turn on your omna, and when the light at the bottom flashes orange, it means that you are clear to connect your device. Created with only iDevices in mind, it is the first security camera to be built around Apple’s HomeKit. If you wish to pair Android devices with security cams, you would be better off picking the plethora of already available security cams in the market.
To use the omna when you’re out and about, you would have to either have an Apple TV or an iPad that’s plugged into the charger, as you require your iPad to be turned on to view it from your iPhone. Despite requiring a web of connection to use it, the omna does its job well. But we have discovered that it does drop connection and lags every now and then when viewing live on your device. But with storage via microSD cards, you can view your recorded videos whenever.
And speaking of recordings, the omna can be triggered via movement, which means if there is an intruder or your pet walking by, your omna will record it and ping you a notification on your iPhone when you’re outside.
Also available on the camera is two-way audio, useful for scaring family members or making your pets jump, aside from communication of course. With HomeKit, you can integrate several devices together with relative ease. You can also have the omna switched on, or trigger your smart light when it senses motion around the house.
A 180-degree camera is installed on the omna, enabling you to have a wider viewing. But when testing, we do find it a little iffy as it gives off a fish-eye lens feel, but without the rounded edges. Even so, it gives sufficient space for us to view with its 180-degree camera.
It is also worth noting that the omna does get slightly hot after prolonged usage, so you should keep it away from curious cats and babies.

This year, D-Link has released a stunning home IP camera which is nothing like what I have reviewed previously. Works only with Apple HomeKit, this camera has a clean and modern look. Combining D-Link’s unique 180-degree de-warping and excellent night vision technology, this is Omna 180.
Out Of The Box
Cylindrical in design, Omna 180 Cam HD (DSH-C310) has a silver-grey aluminium casing that looks like the back of my space grey iPad Pro. Besides its eye catching exterior, the 180-degree camera lens on the front stands out on this camera. Included in the box are 5V 2A micro-USB power adapter and Quick Installation Guide.
The Omna 180 is designed to stand upright on any flat surface. Therefore, there aren’t any mounting holes found on this IP camera. At the base, there is a microSD card slot for local storage and reset button.

It’s also compact, sleek, extremely unobtrusive (not clunky or ugly) and very easy to position anywhere in the house.
The DSC-936L camera features a wide-angle lens which covers a 120° view angle (no panning required!) and the live 720p (1280 × 720) HD video during the day or night is sharp. The camera can be rotated to suit your preferred viewing angle and the video quality is excellent while the built-in microphone captures audio rather well.
I placed it just beside my fish tank to test out the audio and I could hear the faint burbling sounds of water quite clearly. Combined with the good live video quality, it was like those fish aquarium screensavers we used to have on our desktops! However, I do find the night vision mode overly sensitive on auto mode. You will also need to get used to the clicking sound every time it switches mode.
You can take great stills directly with mydlink phone app and store them on your phone or you can connect the camera to your D-Link network-attached storage (NAS) and store the stills and videos there. For me, I’m using both mydlink phone app and NAS.
There is also a MicroSD slot which can house a 128GB card. This means you can have up to 72 hours of continuous recording and much more based on where the camera is located. The camera features both motion and sound detection so you can always be assured of the responsive recording.
You can also adjust the sensitivity level for both motion and sound detection when the camera is set up.

D-Link’s latest camera the Omna 180 Cam HD (DSH-C310) is now available at Apple.com and Singapore Apple stores. Unlike traditional IP cameras with a 120 degree field of view, D-Link’s unique 180-degree solution and de-warping technology allow users to see just about everything, from virtually anywhere.
Homekit Camera
The first in D-Link’s Omna family of HomeKit enabled devices, the Omna 180 Cam HD provides an easy way for users to monitor their home for extra peace of mind. When activity is detected, users will receive a notification on their lock screen, delivered via the Apple Home app. You can then access it for a live feed from the camera.
Features include:
- 180-Degree Field of View
- Dynamic Video Streaming – to optimise the bandwidth
- Two-Way Audio
- Night vision
- Motion detection
- local recording to SD card
- Stylish Design
For those concerned about aesthetics, the D-Link Omna 180 does not look like your traditional IP camera. The camera is designed to fit into the modern home. While expensive, it is one of the few Homekit cameras. THere’s not much choice at the moment, and you do get good support from D-Link.

The D-Link Omna 180 Cam HD (DSH-C310) is the first IP camera launched here that supports Apple HomeKit, which is a framework for communicating with and controlling connected accessories in your home using the pre-installed Home app in iOS 10.
The Omna exudes Apple design sensibility with its sleek aluminium cylindrical shell. It is about the size of a soft drink can and thus can be easily placed anywhere. But it does get a tad hot after a while, so place it somewhere with good ventilation.
At the bottom of the Omna is a microSD card slot to save recorded footage. At its rear is a HomeKit code needed for pairing.

D-LINK DSH-C310 OMNA IP CAMERA
Supporting Apple's HomeKit eco-system, D-Link's Omna 180 HD camera ($329) lets you keep an eye on your baby or pet at home by using your iOS device from anywhere, as long as you are online. You can also configure the camera to send you a notification if any activity is detected in the house. Unlike most home Internet Protocol cameras that provide a viewing angle of 120 degrees, the Omna gives you a wider 180-degree view.Mar 11, 2017

The Omna is a cylindrical metal HD camera which connects to your home network wirelessly, then allows you to view the live stream via a smartphone app. And that is where we hit our first stumbling block. The D-Link Omna is only compatible with iOS devices. Yep, you read that right. Its mid 2017 and this thing only works with iPhones. You know, that smartphone that waaaay less than half of all smartphone users own.
That's a real pain in the arse if you ask us, and although we still review things targeted specifically at iPhone users (and iPhones, for that matter), we're big Android champions here at The Test Pit. The reason why the Omna is iOS only is because D-Link are pushing the fact that it is Apple HomeKit compatible, so you can use it with other smarthome products that also work with Apple's control app. However, even so we can't see much of a benefit of being in the Apple club, as HomeKit is still very much in the early stages of development, and there isn't much else you get out there to add to the app. Still, if you're an Applite who is fully dedicated to everything they release, here's why the Omna might be your next purchase. The other big selling point of this camera is the 180 degree field of view offered by the lens. The camera itself records video in 1080p Full HD, which although is now becoming standard at this price point, there are still many tech firms out there releasing cameras at only 720p, so kudos to D-Link. The stretched view in the app looks great, and thanks to de-warping software built in to the camera, it looks flat and well proportioned, despite representing what could be the whole of a room. And that is truly the point of getting this over other Apple-friendly WiFi cameras: you can see far more in one shot. As well as seeing the live feed on the HomeKit (or iOS-only D-Link) app, you can insert a Micro SD Card into the base to keep a physical copy of the footage. Set motion control zones in the field of view and recording will start (as well as a notification will be sent to your phone) as soon as movement is detected.16th May 2017

Security cameras and nanny cams have become a huge market. Even baby monitors have added night vision capabilities, so you can just grab your phone from your pocket, desk, or nightstand and check on anything you’ve decided to secure at a moment’s notice. D-Link, a longtime maker of routers and wireless equipment, recently sent The Gadgeteer one of their OMNA 180 CAM HD’s for review. I’ve been working with it for a few weeks now.

Best Overall: Logitech Logi Circle
There’s no perfect smart indoor security camera, but in our testing the Logi Circle came closest. In particular, we loved its incredibly simple setup process, minimalist but powerful app, and the fact that it has a built-in battery, so it can be temporarily placed anywhere in your home. On top of that, it has very good image quality in most circumstances, an extra-wide lens, and offers 24 hours of free cloud backup.
The Logi Circle also did the best job of all when it came to sending intelligent alerts. It didn’t spam us with notifications whenever a bird chirped or one of our dogs wandered by, focusing instead on people and unusual events. Live streaming started quickly and rarely lagged, and scrolling through our timeline of auto-captured clips was painless. It’s also easy to capture snapshots and download clips if you want to share them with friends, family, or law enforcement. You can even create a “Daily Brief,” condensing all of the day’s events into a sped-up montage video.
There are some downsides, naturally. The app revels in minimalism but sometimes goes too far, sacrificing in-depth scheduling and motion sensitivity options you get on other models. Our test unit also required absolute darkness to switch into night vision mode, which sometimes left it struggling with muddy color video while other cameras cruised along in crisp black and white. If you want sharp nighttime footage, make sure you turn off all the lights before you head to bed.

Our test unit also required absolute darkness to switch into night vision mode, which sometimes left it struggling with muddy color video while other cameras cruised along in crisp black and white. If you want sharp nighttime footage, make sure you turn off all the lights before you head to bed.
